Denon DJ Engine OS v1.6 Beta is here

3 September 2020

Denon DJ’s Engine DJ is a leading cross-platform DJ software platform that powers Engine PRIME and ENGINE Operating Software (OS). Today Denon has announced the release of version 1.6 Public Beta which allows direct access to Dropbox and BeatSource LINK services from any Engine OS device. Following previous feedback, two highly sought-after features have also been added in the form of flexible beat grids for all devices, and track preview for the PRIME 4. The Engine PRIME desktop also gets an update which sees Dropbox integration, Serato DJ Pro and rekordbox 5 beat grid import, and flexible beat grids.

Dropbox Integration for Engine PRIME and Engine OS

Denon DJ already possesses the accolade for standalone streaming capability, so their next logical step is Dropbox. DJs can store their music through Engine PRIME and then have access to it remotely, on any Engine OS device anywhere in the world. It follows suit with other streaming services, where tracks are downloaded in their entirety so that playback is not interrupted, even if the internet connection drops out.

Beatsource LINK Service for Engine OS

Finally, Beatsource LINK music streaming is here, which offers open format music and playlists from worldwide top record labels. DJs can access Beatsource LINK to browse, search and play from any Engine OS device, without the need for a laptop. Performance data such as BPM, Hot Cues, Key and Loops are saved to the DJs source drive so can be instantly accessed when recalled. Beatsource LINK also offers playback options in the form of optimised (128kb/s AAC) and advanced (256kb/s AAC).

Flexible Beat Grids for Engine PRIME and Engine OS

The new 1.6 version allows DJs to manually add beat grids to tunes with varying tempo or multiple BPMs. Tempo anchors can be dropped throughout a track to alter the tracks BPM or to modify a shifting tempo manually. This feature is particularly useful for tracks that have intended tempo changes, e.g. transition up/down or multi-genre tracks, where the beat grid for old vinyl rips or assigning multiple tempo sections need aligning. Any device that operates Engine OS v1.6 will automatically detect tracks that have flexible beat grids and proceed to apply BPM changes to all decks that are synchronised.

Track Preview for PRIME 4

Track preview directly from the library on the PRIME 4 is now available. All a user needs to do is tap the album artwork from the tracklist to preview the track without having to load it first speedily. Another excellent quick access feature is where users can tap across the title of a track to ‘needle-drop’ demo alternative segments of the song. This time-saving action can prove critical when mixing and is a worthy function when time is of the essence. Additionally, there is a Track Preview protection measure in place that ensures that the track that is previewed is only played in the cue mix and not out to everyone in the audience.

Accessing Version 1.6 Public Beta

The new updates are available through the Official Denon DJ Forum, and users are actively encouraged to put the update through its passes and provide feedback. Denon DJ is keen to work closely with its users to ensure that it pleases its acute fan base and that it’s up to its harshest critics, the users, requirements and expectations. Denon DJ has advised that as it is a Beta version, things may change and that a backup of your collection should be created before commencing any form of testing. It is asked that feedback is given through the appropriate channel, the Official Denon DJ Forum, and not via Social Media outlets.

We look forward to reviewing the feedback and seeing how avid users react to these new additions.s
