Pioneer DJ take a new approach by stepping into the world of music production and releasing the Pioneer TORAIZ SP-16 sampler and step sequencer. The stand-alone portable unit was skilfully designed with over twenty years of electronic music industry knowledge on hand; the result is a compact and versatile sound machine which unlocks the creativity boundaries both in the studio or DJ booth.

TORAIZ SP-16 Introduction

Pioneer and the renowned synthesiser creator Dave Smith have joined forces by incorporating his admired Prophet-6 analogue filters to the sampler, giving your musical creations additional rich, analogue warmth and presence. The Time stretch, amp envelope and pitch bend features can all be manipulated reliably due to the real-time processing engine; plus a left side vertical touch strip gives you instinctive control of different parameters including pitch bending.

Loading multiple samples into the Toraiz SP-16 couldn't be easier and is done via USB or from the internal memory. These are then ready to use via the units 16-step sequencer or trigger one-shots and loops with the multicoloured Performance Pads. The music production controller is ideal for DJs wanting to take their live performances to the next level; and by connecting to CDJs via Pro DJ Link, everything is synced to the beat, leaving you to focus on the artistic performance.

The 7-inch full-colour touch screen allows for effortless navigation. Select the Track Menu to view in-depth information about your sample sounds and their parameters; these can also be manipulated by using the six rotary knobs which are situated just below the colour screen. The sampler already comes loaded with 2GB of onboard samples, courtesy of Loopmasters, so you can start creating musical melodies right out of the box.

Standout Features:

7”, full-colour touchscreen

The Pioneer TORAIZ SP-16 has a full-colour, 7” touchscreen.  Detailed sample information can be displayed on the screen as well as instantaneous waveforms.  There is also the ability to browse, load and assign colours effortlessly to the samples.  The dials under the screen can be used to modify a number of parameters.

Performance pads with included Velocity Mode

To ensure consistency and ease of use the performance pads have been adopted from the family of Pioneer DJ controllers.  Up to 16 samples can be loaded and as the pads are multicoloured, the allocated colour to an individual pad reflects the sound.  This in turn ensures smooth finger drumming.  Velocity mode adds that little extra as it allows the volume of the sample to be controlled dependent upon how hard the pad is hit.  The TORAIZ SP-16 comes with Loopmasters samples.

16-step sequencer; up to 256 patterns

Sounds can be dropped into the sequencer so as to create unique 16-step loops and then the six dials can be used to modify the sounds further.  The buttons, which are multicoloured, displays the colour to the corresponding sound that has been allocated.  The patterns are able to be saved and played back straight away either on stage or in the booth.

Instantaneous processing and 8GB of flash memory

All 16 samples can be played at once thanks to the TORAIZ SP-16’s delivery of 16-voice polyphony.  The samples can even be played when editing the sound via the touchscreen amp envelope or using time stretch.  The massive 8GB of flash memory means you won’t need to worry about running out of space quickly and it also provides the flexibility to use the unit as a standalone entity i.e. no need to connect a laptop or PC.

Pro DJ Link and MIDI Clock

Pro DJ Link can be used to connect the TORAIZ SP-16 to either a CDJ or XDJ set-up.  The sampler is able to then snap the loops and one-shots to the beat of the master-deck effortlessly, enabling several layers of sounds to be applied over tracks, certifying all will be in sync.  The MIDI clock ensures USB connections to other devices stay in sync.  Connecting via DAWs and synths will follow in the future.

Analogue filters from Dave Smith Instruments’ Prophet-6 synthesiser

Pioneer have worked in connection with Dave Smith so as to add the analogue filters from his renowned Prophet-6 synthesiser to the TORAIZ SP-16.  The dials on the unit can be used to modify the Drive, Resonance or Cut Off and also add analogue warmth and presence.
