Novation AFX Station Limited Edition

The Novation AFX Station is a new limited-edition version of the renowned Bass Station II. It is a classic modern monosynth with a mixture of digital control and analogue synth. The AFX Station includes all the same powerful features as the Bass Station II, including amp and filter modulation, two oscillators, multimode filter, an arpeggiator, step sequencing and more. The special edition adds even more and brings pre-installed firmware version 4.14 which includes extended sub-oscillator controls, fixed-duration envelopes, oscillator glide diverge and the much-admired AFX Mode from electronic music legend Richard D James aka Aphex Twin. With a solid foundation, the additional features, new design with striking purple reveals and the famous ‘A’ insignia, along with the customised gift box designed by Weirdcore, makes the AFX Station an instant collector’s item.

There are brand new artist patches in the form of 128 synth patches and seven overlay banks from Perplex On, Lightbath, Noyze Lab, r beny and Richard Devine which all display the creative vision of Aphex Twin. The addition of the new editor in Novation Components allows for full control when managing all the overlays.

AFX Station Limited Edition New Features

Firmware version 4.14 is already pre-installed on the AFX Station and brings with it a host of new and exciting features. Fixed-duration Envelopes and Retrigger counts is where envelopes can be set to a fixed length, and the decay slider, instead of the decay stage, sets the duration of the sustain stage. The retrigger counts are the number of times the envelopes retrigger and can be adjusted to allow more control for drum synthesis.

Extended Sub Oscillator controls can be used to create subtle or dramatic effects through using the sub-oscillator to follow the pitch of oscillator 1, which can be detuned using the coarse and fine controls, which results in the sub being tuned to any non-octave tracking interval.

Character to basslines, pads and leads can be built along with the thickness and creating portamento effects through the Oscillator Glide Diverge which allows the glide time of oscillator 2 to be reduced relative to oscillator 1 by a varying amount.

The Microtuning editing function allows complete control of the frequency triggered by each key press, giving scales even more scope.

The Paraphonic mode allows the pitches of the two oscillators to be controlled separately and allows two notes to be played simultaneously, which provides creative interaction through the Ring and Filter Mod.

Finally, the AFX Station come with a range of software including Ableton Live Lite, 4 GB Loopmasters, Free Melodics Lessons and access to the Sound Collective.

Novation Bass Station II

The Novation BassStation II is an analogue monophonic synthesiser based on the original BassStation, re-imagined for the modern environment.
