Pioneer DJ Rekordbox 6 Subscription Plans Explained

With the release of rekordbox version 6.0, came tiered subscription plans. There are three plans, the Free Plan, Core Plan and Creative Plan. The Free Plan contains extensive features including being able to fully use the Performance mode when managed by your PC/Mac. The additional two subscription options allow for more features to be unlocked. We will delve into each plan in more detail below so you can see for yourself what is included in each.

Rekordbox Free Plan

The Free subscription plan is very well stocked with features and is available for everyone. Here is what you can expect:

Performance Mode

Performance mode can be accessed and controlled through a PC or Mac. As a result, you are now able to play with mixes, loops, FX, cues and more. There is also the capability of being able to mix tracks from SoundCloud Go+ and Beatport LINK if you have those streaming services.

Performance mode can be directly enabled on some Pioneer DJ units, which are known as Hardware Unlock devices. As long as one of the units includes this feature, then performance mode can be used freely.

Syncing Mobile Library

Connect your computer and mobile device to the same network to unlock the ability to export tracks, playlists and folders freely between them from your shared library. Tracks can also be played from the unit when an iOS device is connected with specific CDJ/XDJ models.

Beatport LINK and SoundCloud Go+ Support

As mentioned above, you can select tracks from either streaming service through Performance Mode. All of the files that are imported will be analysed by rekordbox, which means you can then view waveforms, tag tracks and set Hot Cues. Playlists can even be generated, from multiple sources, and stored on your hard drive for convenience.

Inflyte

If you use Inflyte, you can access tracks through your promo locker without having to leave rekordbox. There is the option to select and transfer tracks, or auto-sync.

Auto Relocate track

If you have temporarily misplaced a track by moving it, rekordbox can search all locations within a specified folder to not only find the track, but to also correct its path, and play it from the new location.

Support for Ableton Link

The tempo of the master rekordbox deck is synchronised with apps on external devices, your device or hardware that works, is compatible, with Ableton Link technology.

3Band Waveform

The 3Band Waveform has been newly designed, and its functionality improved so that even by looking at it, you can visually understand the track. Each frequency band has been issued to differentiate and indicate the volume of each.

Skin Setting

There is a great little feature which allows you to modify your skin setting to Light mode when you are out and about, and find the sun is shining on your screen. It ensures you can get a more unobstructed view of all the information and settings within rekordbox.

Other features worth mentioning include:

• Management of Music - effortlessly prepare for your performances, organise tracks into playlists, and set loops and cue points.
• Performance Recording - as long as you are using a Hardware Unlock device, you can capture your mixes.
• Export Mode – analysed tracks and playlist can be exported to USB drives.
• Export Mode Recording – Ability to fully utilise the recording function when in Export Mode.
• Link Export Mode – Access your entire rekordbox library without exporting a thing.
• Lighting Mode – Lighting sequences can be automatically generated with the phrases in each track. These sequences can then control lighting equipment through RB-DMX1 (available separately).
• DVS Mode – DVS system produces top-quality sound and performance, and exclusive control vinyl (available separately) to scratch when connected with a compatible Hardware Unlock device.

 

Rekordbox Core Plan

With the Core Plan, you get everything that the Free Plan has to offer with some added features.

2 Device Activation

You can download rekordbox and sign in on two different devices. A great example would be to have your full rekordbox library on your main studio setup computer while having a ‘lighter’ library on a laptop.

Performance Mode

Any compatible Pioneer DJ hardware can be used to access and control Performance Mode in rekordbox. For this, you wouldn’t require a Hardware Unlock device.

DVS Control

Use a DVS compatible interface or mixer to scratch with the exclusive control vinyl (available separately).

Monthly Cost

There is no contract, so you can use the Core Plan when you want, and have the option to revert to the Free Plan, or sign up to the Creative Plan, at your leisure. If you wish to use the Core Plan features again, you can always re-sign at a later date. The regular monthly subscription price is usually £9.99, however until mid-July its £6.99 for this plan. 

Rekordbox Creative Plan

With the Creative Plan, you get everything that the Free Plan and Core Plan has to offer with a few additional features.

4 Device Activation

Download and sign in to rekordbox on four separate devices. It is a great idea to have perhaps a master library situated somewhere, with ‘lighter’ libraries on other devices.

Cloud Library Sync

Your rekordbox library can now be accessed across multiple devices, via Dropbox. When rekordbox and Dropbox are synced, tracks, playlists folders, and even your full collection can be uploaded and be accessible across your account connected devices. There is also the option to back up your rekordbox library to the Cloud. Thanks to auto-sync, your changes and modifications will be updated, so if you created something on the fly then you can access it back at base, or you can rest assured if something ‘bad’ happens, you have a backup.

Video and Lyric features

Video and image files can be mixed in rekordbox and then can be outputted on to an external monitor. Track lyrics can also be displayed, which are automatically sourced by rekordbox, and then animated in perfect sync with the music.

RMX Effects

You can unleash your creativity with Scene FX extracted from the Pioneer DJ Remix Stations, proven to be popular among pro DJs and Producers.

Saving Sample Sequence

8 Sampler sequences can be recorded and stored and accessed whenever you wish.

Monthly Cost

There is no contract so you can use the Creative Plan when you want. As the monthly cost is manageable, you have the option to revert to the Free or Core Plan if you so desired. If you wish to use the Creative Plan features again, you can re-sign at a later date. The regular monthly subscription price is usually £14.99, however until mid-July there is an introductory offer making this plan £9.99.
