Marco Faraone’s DJS-1000 Tips & Tricks

Pioneer DJ has released a new series of tutorial videos for the DJS-1000 DJ sampler. DJ Marco Faraone walks us through various features of the DJS-1000 and includes recording patterns live, to loading in your own samples and adding live elements to your loops.

RECORDING A LIVE PATTERN

The first video in the five-part series sees Marco Faraone talk about recording patterns live. To record live patterns into the DJS-1000 you need to make sure the record button is activated, this is found just above the stop button. Next, all you need to do is play the pattern you want; this will then automatically be recorded into the DJS-1000. If you wish to adjust any of the patterns, you can use the 16-step sequencer to make amendments.

LOADING YOUR OWN SAMPLES

The DJS comes loaded with sounds for you to utilise in your sets, however sometimes it’s best to use your own to give your sets some authenticity. You can load your samples directly into the DJS-1000 with a USB drive; alternatively, you can create your own sample banks using the DJS-TSP Project Creator software for PC and Mac. This allows you to build your own unique sample banks for use in your sets.

FILTERS AND EFFECTS

The DJS-1000 comes loaded with its own effects; these effects include filters, echoes, delays, reverbs, and pitch effects. To activate the effects press the FX button at the top of the unit and select the effect you want. To activate the effect use the effect controls found just above the touch strip. Use the on/off button to activate the effect and then use the rotary control to dial in the effect.

USING THE PIONEER DJS-1000

Marco uses the DJS-1000 to create breaks and drops. Marco uses a snare sample alongside the repeat note function on the touch strip to create a build up and adds a bit of reverb to generate an uplifting build effect.

ADDING LIVE ELEMENTS

In the last video, Marco Faraone explains how he utilises the DJS-1000 in his live sets. Marco adds new rhythms to his patterns using the live record feature. He then goes on to add reverb to his patterns and records hi-hat rhythms to spice his pattern. He explains that adding new elements to tracks helps create a unique sound and gives your sets a fresh sound.
