The Alesis VX49 is the first midi keyboard controller to work alongside the innovative VIP software. Virtual Instrument Player (VIP) software enables direct and full usage of Virtual Studio Technology (VST) instruments. The controller consists of a high resolution, full colour, 4.3-inch screen and a 49-key good-quality keybed with aftertouch. The VX49 MIDI controller enables the user to have full control of virtual instruments and DAWs. The combination of the VIP software and the controller layout allows the user to have a smooth and uncomplicated workflow experience.
Not only are users who purchase the Alesis VX49 provided with the VIP software, they are able to upload, play and manage their virtual instruments directly from the MIDI controller. As a result, usefully, this modern usb keyboard reduces the time required to use a computer and directly increases flexible performance capabilities.
The included VIP software has various functions that can be accessed directly from the controller. First off there is the ‘tagging’ function which enables users to search and filter through single patches in their plug-in library effortlessly. Once the chosen plug-in has been selected the VIP software auto-maps the VX49’s hardware controls to that plug-in and in turn the parameters are displayed.
Secondly, there is the ‘multi’ function which allows the user to merge up to 8 patches from 1 or more plug-ins. In addition, the user is then able to modify the patches through layering, panning or mixing. Also under this function there is the ablity to set keyboard splits and switch patches along with saving and recalling any new sound created.
Finally, another feature worth mentioning is the means for the VIP software to produce ‘setlists’ which enables virtual instruments to be instantaneously accessed for live performances.
