Look what Rane has revealed. The ONE, their very own motorised DJ controller which incorporates their familiar trademark design and build quality. This isn’t Rane’s first controller; they have launched a couple in the past. They are probably better known for their mixers, the SEVENTY and SEVENTY-TWO, until maybe now that is.
The new ONE DJ controller isn’t short of features. It has two motorised 7-inch turntable platters, along with sixteen velocity-sensitive multi-colour backlit performance pads (eight on each deck with eight modes each), a MAG FOUR crossfader, 6 FX buttons, 3-band EQs, high/low pass filters with dedicated loop controls and numerous connections.
The professional controller is perfect for DJs looking to move into the Digital Djing world. The ONE appears to be the first controller within the DJ market to feature motorised 7-inch turntable platters that provide a real vinyl feel and offer high and low torque settings that can be fully tailored. The ONE allows DJs to have complete control over their performances and mixes, with true Djing spirit at the epicentre. The traditional turntable style stop/start button is the icing on the cake.
The MAG FOUR fader, which is lightweight and smooth, is Rane’s best one yet featured on any of its equipment. In addition to the fader, the front panel controls include fast/slow contour adjustment, reverse switch, internal tension-adjust, and the newest addition to Serato software, cut in adjustment control. All these features allow the user to play and perform to their full potential.
The multi-coloured performance pads offer access to Hot Cues, Roll, Sampler, Saved Loops, Slicer and Serato’s Scratch Bank feature. There are 6 FX buttons which when pressed initiates any combination of software FX. These can then be further tuned using the depth and beat parameter controls and finally activate with the paddle controls. Sound can be controlled using the 3-band dynamic EQs, along with high/low pass filters on each deck. There is a dedicated loop section, where sections of a track can be looped at the touch of a button. Also available is manual in/out controls and re-looping, allowing for complete control of a mix.
Rane’s high-quality audio reputation is upheld within the ONE controller. To allow for greater flexibility, there are main and booth outputs, an RCA main out, two dual TRS/XLR Microphone along with an auxiliary input, covering all your audio needs. Other connections include two USB connections and a line input that can be switched to phono for use with a traditional turntable.
With the ONE comes a licence key for Serato DJ Pro, meaning there is plug-and-play capability straight from the box. It appears to be an all-round DJ Controller, well-structured with an intuitive layout and subject to Rane’s quality product standards.
