The Roland MX-1 Mix Performer is an 18-channel performance mixer with built-in step-sequenced effects, transport controls, and a master tempo control. This allows you to bring all your synthesisers, drum machines, loops, DAW tracks and so much more together inside of a single performance-optimized mixing instrument that combines the elements of a mixer, control surface, audio interface and step-based effects unit. The MX-1 is designed to be the beating heart of your electronic instrument rig, it’s a mixer you can use to play, control, and mix with.

There are mute buttons for quickly silencing and un-muting channels with LED-backlit fader that clearly show the playing status of a channel, even in dark environments. DJ style headphone monitoring allows you to seamlessly mix between instruments and channels so you can smoothly blend tracks together or drop tracks right on beat. Thanks to separate headphone and master volume control knobs and vibrant metering allows you to keep everything in check. Also, everything, including effects configurations and settings can be saved and recalled for instant access, making it perfect for live performances. The MX-1 comes equipped with six analogue inputs including four AIRA Link USB ports, digital in/outputs, send and return jacks, as well as the ability to stream 18 channels to and from your DAW with ease, this enables you to bring together a wide range of musical sources and places them directly at your fingertips. Each of the solid, smooth faders comes with six different volume curves available while each channel features an adjustable tone/filter knob with ten varying types of filters, EQs, and isolators.

There are three different types of control modes that allows the MX-1 to integrate perfectly into any setup. Using the control surface mode, you can sync the MX-1 to your computer where it will then work as a high-quality MIDI controller for your digital audio workstation. Mixer mode enables all connected audio sources including analogue and digital inputs, AIRA equipment, and the output of your computer to be mixed from within the unit itself, while a dedicated stereo channel takes charge of your computer's output, you can also send computer audio through any of the four USB channels if no device is connected to the AIRA Link USB ports, super handy for the digital musician.

An external mode lets the mixer send all inputs directly into your digital audio workstation, just like a high-quality audio interface, you can then mix all 18-channels back from your DAW, placing them in the hands of the MX-1’s faders. This allows you to utilise the recording, clip triggering, effects and mixing functionalities of your DAW alongside the mixer’s cue monitoring, sync capabilities, and performance-optimized mixing and effects abilities. Although the MX-1 makes working alongside a computer way more fun, it will work just as well on its own. Whether you’re integrating the mixer with your DAW or using it for entirely out-of-the-box productions and performances, the MX-1 fits right in at home.

Four AIRA Link USB ports make connecting AIRA equipment a smooth process thanks to the automatic detection feature, the AIRA ports work to transmit audio, MIDI, and sync data over a single USB cable. One of the ports can even be used to provide bus USB powering to compatible AIRA products such as the TB-3 Touch Bassline synth or the VT-3 Voice Transformer, this reduces cable clutter and gives you a speedier and more simple setup. You also get hands-on control over start, stop, tempo and timing so you can sync an array of musical devices over MIDI or AIRA Link allowing you to control everything using the vibrantly lit TR-styled start/stop buttons while the large tempo with fine adjustments, shuffle controls, and tap tempo function.
