Every couple of months, Focusrite and Novation offer their collective members an exclusive deal, usually in the form of free software. This month the offer is the same for both. From the 20th of January to 17th March 2022, a free download of Baby Audio’s Parallel Aggressor, worth $49, is available for all registered Focusrite and Novation Collective Members.
Baby Audio Parallel Aggressor
Parallel Aggressor from Baby Audio works by splitting your track and then allows the processing of each of the duplicated copies by adding impact and punch at different intensities. The duplicated copies are then blended to create a powerful compressed/saturated track whilst keeping the dynamics of the original sounding audio.
The plugin allows the audio to be split into three parallel tracks, Dry, Spank (Compressed) and Heat (Saturated). Dry is the original audio, Spank is the duplicate copy that is heavily compressed, and Heat is the duplicate copy that is heavily saturated. All three audios can then be combined to hear the powerful results.
More about the Engines
Spank Engine is designed to adapt to the audio signal and its low-frequency content. So the first job is to set the compression amount, then use the style injection buttons to control the engine behaviour and finally use the volume slider to dictate the amount you want blended. The Spank style injection buttons include Extra Punch, Sidechain Filter, Mono or Extra Smack.
Heat Engine provides a warm, analogue modelled saturation algorithm with an aggressive bite that will add rich, non-linear tones to blend with your signal. Firstly, you set the saturation intensity, use the style injection buttons to control the engine behaviour and then use the volume slider to set the amount you want to be blended. The Heat style injection buttons include Extra Hot, HP Filter, LP Filter and Tone.
Auto Gain can be used to ensure the combined output of the three signals is kept in the region of the input/dry level. This allows you to experiment with alternating internal mix balances whilst maintaining a consistent plugin output.
