Denon DJ Release Engine Prime v1.2.1 and MCX8000 v2.0 Updates

Today Denon DJ has released a brand new v2.0 firmware update for the MCX8000 standalone DJ Controller. It gives the controller a wealth of new functionalities and features that are designed to offer even more precise control over your mixes, so you can craft flawless DJ sets with a tonne of creative manipulation controls. One of the most notable new features is the added support for Engine Prime prepared USB drives which allows users of Denon’s Prime software to easily load their tracks into the MCX8000. As a result, all of your analysed tracks will have available essential track data such as BPM, key and pitch information, artist and track title with artwork, beatgrid data, and hot cue and loop markers.

A wealth of added, improved, and extended features work to give you even more precise control over your tracks and offers beat grid support for Engine Prime prepared USB drives. Additionally, there is a beat grid slide feature which can be accessed via the slide button, and an additional quantize features which lets you alter the quantize options from 1/8, 1/4, 1/2, and 1, beat and off for setting and triggering hot cues and loops which can be accessed using the adjust button. There is also a new beat sync feature so your mixes can always be precisely in time with each other and is perfect for new and beginner DJs.

There is an added pitch range lock which works to prevent drastic pitch changes when moving the pitch fader at large pitch percentages, so when moving between genres and tempos, your mixes will always sound smooth, while improved slicer quantization offers better triggering accuracy, and drifting, when in sync mode. Improved needle drop accuracy lets you instantly get to the exact part of a song you need. With preview stutter completely removed, a new 12 o’clock platter LED reset allows you to perform scratch techniques and hot cue juggling with more efficiency which is ideal for performance DJs.

When searching for your next track to play there is a new BPM sorting algorithm. When browsing through tracks using the BPM filter there is extended support for folder names allowing you to see up to 64 characters, and a prolonged display time for the letter popup when using the first letter search filter. The ‘Default Auto Loop Beat’ setting name has been changed to ‘Default Auto Loop Size’ and the ‘Auto Cue Level’ has been changed to ‘Track Start Position’ with tracks now loading to the initial cue position or track start point.

A wide selection of added functionalities for the microphones features include microphone 1 and 2 attenuation controls, with a utility menu option of 0dB to -20dB as well as the ability to alter the talk over level from -10dB to -40dB with resume type options fast and normal. As a result when using the talk over function the music will kick in as quickly as you would like after talking. Also, when recording your mixes directly to USB, there is the ability to adjust the USB recording level so you can ensure your recordings will always sound as best as possible.

Various bug fixes have been addressed, and plenty of stability improvements have been made. Lots of issues have been fixed such as not being registered as a MIDI device on certain Mac OS systems, and the looping issues which would cause audio to drop out. You can now be sure that the MCX8000 is able to perform fluid mixes so you can mix with creativity and flair at every gig, party, or private mix.

Engine Prime 1.2.1 Update

Denon DJ has released a new v 1.2.1 update of their Engine Prime Software for the flagship SC5000 and SC5000M media players. Note, the update can be processed by adding the update directly to a USB drive. To update the media players firmware, please follow the steps below:

  • -Download the standalone firmware from DenonDJ.com.
  • -Un-zip the downloaded file and copy it to a compatible USB drive or SD card.
  • -Insert your USB drive into the player, open the utilities menu inside the SC5000/SC5000M and press restart.
  • -The media player will then prompt that a new firmware version has been found. Confirm to restart.
  • -Once the update is finished, the player will restart again in normal mode.

Engine Prime 1.2.1 Update

The Prime Engine v1.2.1 software update comes with some bug fixes that would cause issues when searching for tracks, when trying to read a corrupted database, and features an improved scratching algorithm that eliminates small audible pops when scratching back and forwards with some audio content. A new feature provides you with an increased scratch-able/playable empty space before the start of a track which allows you to scratch and perform more fluidly.

It must be noted that Engine Prime Software v1.2.1 is not backwards compatible with v1.0.3 or earlier, and switching back to earlier versions might cause unwanted behaviour and loss of collection integrity. This is one of the reasons why it is essential to stay updated; it has been recommended that you make a backup copy of your music and Engine libraries as an additional safety precaution before you upgrade. In order for the new features to be added to the Prime products the Engine software needs to update your music databases on all drives. This is done automatically when any drive is connected to the Engine Prime Software or an SC5000/SC5000M. As this may take some time to complete it is also recommended that your drives are upgraded when the Engine Prime Software is open.
