Akai Professional MPC Major Software/Firmware update - version 2.2

20 April 2018

Akai Professional have announced a big software and firmware update for the most recent additions to their renowned MPC range. The MPC Live and MPC X will now be powered by the new MPC 2.2 software. This state-of-the-art production suite now provides users with 128-track-sequencing, advanced MIDI editing, ability to act solely as a standalone application on both Mac and PC, clip-launch functionality, real-time time stretching, pitch shifting, VST compatibility in controller mode, seamless DAW integration, advanced sampling and audio editing/recording capability, and a redesigned Graphical User Interface (GUI) to name a few.

Additionally, this massive update brings with it a number of new performance and production features including Global MIDI Learn where the MPC desktop software can be managed by external MIDI controlled devices e.g. keyboards and pad controllers, Project MIDI Learn where the parameters for the MPC standalone and desktop software can also be managed by external MIDI enabled devices such as MIDI mixers, keyboards or pad controllers, Randomise MIDI events where the MPC can generate random events such as melodic patterns and drum beats, MPC X and MPC Live is now capable of loading a user template project directly from the launch page and finally Humanise MIDI events where users are now able to randomise the timing or velocity.

Akai MPC Live and Akai MPC X

Akai believe the MPC range “doesn’t just compliment your workflow, it enhances it”. Both the MPC X and Live have a fully functioning colour touch-screen display along with an intuitive User Interface, which provides crystal clear navigation. Following the route of smartphones and tablets, the screen allows users to grab, pinch and modify waveforms, program the step sequencer, apply FX, draw MIDI events, browse and load samples, set critical mix controls and a lot more.

There is the ability to connect the MPC Live or X to either a PC or Mac and load the MPC software as a plugin into your choice of DAW. Alternatively, you can use both as a standalone, and engage in the creative possibilities with the VST instruments and effects.

It is also worth noting both models feature a 2.5” SATA drive connector which provides additional storage via an SSD or HDD hard drives. Failing that, all music/sounds/samples can be accessed and added using the inbuilt SD card slot or USB drive.

Finally, Akai realises the need for plug-and-play capability, so each of the models comes complete with 10Gb of top sound content in the form of The Vault 2.0. This features samples from industry leading sound design companies including Capsun Audio, TOOLROOM, Loopmasters, MVP Loops, CR2 Records, as well as some of Akai’s very own.
