Akai Advance 61 Midi Keyboard This is the way to do it! Akai Professional’s Advance Keyboards is like nothing else you’ve ever played. All three models—the Advance 25, Advance 49, and Advance 61—give you unprecedented playability and unrestricted manipulation of any virtual instrument with our exclusive interactive, full-colour display, complemented by performance-friendly hardware controls. Available in 25-, 49-, and 61-key sizes, they Advance Keyboards deftly fuse the power of software instruments with the live playability of a keyboard workstation, so you can create like never before. The dividing line between software and hardware instruments is finally gone!

The Advance Keyboards transforms computer-based plugins into an entirely hands-on playing experience. The keyboard surface features an integrated high-resolution full-colour 4.3-inch display, providing real-time control and feedback of all virtual instruments. The screen instantly adapts itself to the selected plugin’s controls, delivering immediate 1:1 access to the instrument and various editable functions. Better yet, the Advance Keyboards works with any VSTi virtual instrument. Using the Advance Keyboard’s custom-designed Virtual Instrument Player (VIP) software application, your entire VSTi library is controlled by one application. VIP operates as a plugin inside any major digital audio workstation (DAW) or as a stand-alone application on both Mac and Windows operating systems.

Sophisticated but Easy to Use

Dedicated physical controls are thoughtfully included, with our RGB backlit, velocity- and pressure-sensitive pads on each keyboard surface. Rubberized pitch and modulation wheels provide simple, direct note manipulation with musically natural action. Easily-gripped, continuously-variable endless knobs let you make adjustments with granular or dramatic effect. Our custom semi-weighted, velocity-sensitive keybed supports aftertouch, making it the ideal keyboard for seasoned live performers and studio producers alike.

We Give You Everything You Need

Included with each Advance Keyboard is the Virtual Instrument Player (VIP) application. VIP gives you immediate access to any virtual instrument in your collection, with or without a DAW—a powerful way to play virtual instruments live or integrate them into a recording session.

VIP software users can also create setlists that provide on-demand access to your customized instruments for stage performance and studio work. By simply pressing a single button on an Advance Keyboard, you can adapt to song changes as the live performance progresses—without ever reaching for your computer. That’s what you want!

You’ll also love VIP’s facilities for hyper-fast instrument and patch browsing, key zone splitting, layering of up to 8 instruments per VIP instance, expansive custom mapping capabilities, and support for any VSTi plugin. You can run as many instances of the Virtual Instrument Player as your computer allows. VIP runs as a VSTi, AU, RTAS or AAX plugin, allowing you access to VSTi's in virtually any DAW, such as Pro Tools, Logic Pro X and Ableton Live.

With the Advance Keyboards, you get uninhibited access to any virtual instrument in your library without losing focus of the instrument in front of you. Nothing else can do that for you.

VIP 2.0 Software
VIP 2.0 is the latest version from Virtual Instruments Player (VIP) which builds on their ever popular software.  This latest update provides users with full control of VST Effects in addition to having the ability to play, control and catalogue all their VST instruments directly from the keyboard.

As with the first release, the VIP software allows users to access any patch from any VST virtual instrument on their computer straight from their keyboard.  VIP 2.0 allows users to do the same but with the added inclusion of VST effects.  The in-built ‘tagging’ function allows users to speedily search and filter through each individual patch or instrument in their plugin library.  This feature saves a lot of time and effort when locating a particular sound or effect.  When the patch is selected, VIP auto-maps the plugin to the keyboards controls and in turn displays the parameter of the plugin on the keyboards, full-colour display, for 1:1 workstation.

Another feature of the well-known software is the ‘Multis’ feature which allows users to merge up to eight patches from one or more plugins with the added option of layering, panning or mixing.  Version 2.0 now allows the user to add up to four effects by sending and inserting them in to each slot of the Multis.  The effects can be saved as Effect Stacks and are able to be recalled in an instant for fast testing or for use in other setups.

Having the ability to layer up to 8 different VST instruments with each one having their own effects is exciting.  Being able to recall Multis or effect stacks from a single patch change, and all from the keyboard, provides the user with a great deal of flexibility and control.  This is extremely useful for studio or live performance uses.  Another very helpful feature is the new Custom Control Mode.  This enables the user to map any plugin parameter from any VST (instrument or effect) to any of the VIP-enabled keyboards buttons or knobs.

2.0 Features

  • Expanded Multi Mixer – now includes Send Effects, Insert Effects, Bus Tracks and Master Output channel strip.  The ability to minimise sections means the view can be modified to suit small or large monitors.
  • Effects Browser – mimics the VIPs instrument browser by speedy and effortless searching.
  • Effects Stacks – combines multiple effects into patches which can be saved and re-used.
  • Custom Control Mode - map any plugin parameter from any VST (instrument or effect) to any of the VIP-enabled keyboards buttons or knobs.
  • New Plugin maps – updated maps available for virtual instruments and effects plugins.

Re-cap of what VIP is

VIP is included as box standard within keyboard brands such as Akai Professional Advance 25, 49 and 61 and Alesis VX49.  Alternatively, VIP works on its own as an application or as any digital audio workstation as a VST, AU or AAX plug-in.  The VIP software allows users to access their VST instruments and effects plugins stored on their computer directly from a VIP-enabled keyboard effortlessly.

"Akai hasn't made anything as ground-breaking as this for a while. it really does make using and controlling your software a breeze. This is what software control should be like: hardware!"

"Taken on it's own, Advance is a good controller. But combined with VIP it's almost in a league of it's own"

"Akai has brought something hugely useful to the market and the Advance hardware plus VIP software puts the emphasis back on hands-on creating/performing rather than screen-led mouse-centric programming"

"Akai Pro has hit a home run with Advance 49, which is far, far, more than just a MIDI controller. It's ability to host your virtual instruments together in a single, searchable browser environment is brilliant, and sets it apart from any other product on the market."
