Details

Ableton 10 is the newest installment of the massively popular Digital Audio Workstation and provides you with an advanced music production and sound editing application with a tonne of brand new features that are purely designed to assist you with your compositions and audio editing. Such features include a brand new user interface, the addition of a wavetable synthesizer and a broad range of workflow improvements alongside perfect integration with Max for Live.

Ableton Live 10

To help you stay in the groove, Ableton 10 now features a multitude of workflow improvements that are designed to keep you focused on what’s most important, creating music that sounds great. Whether you’re merely getting down some ideas, organising your setup or getting down and dirty with some creative audio processing Live 10 comes with a plethora of improved functions, new shortcuts, and production based features to keep you in the creative process.

When using the Push 2 alongside Ableton Live 10 you can simultaneously sequence notes and play them from the same pad layout; this means you can play notes in real time using the bottom 32 pads as well as use the top 32 pads to sequence in chord progressions and melodies. Also using the MIDI note view you can alter notes and pitches directly from the Push’s display, simply press and hold a step on the sequencer and use the onboard controls to adjust parameters such as velocity, note position and note length. Thanks to the Push 2’s high-resolution screens you get a crystal clear view of both the Echo effect and the Wavetable synthesizer while you’re using them, this means you do not need to constantly stare at your computer screen when you’re sound designing. This visualization also works for the EQ Eight effect and the Compressor; you’ll see a frequency spectrum analysis across the screen in real time alongside mid/side and left/right EQ modes, as well as visuals for threshold settings and when the signal ducks.

Now Max for Live is fully integrated into Ableton 10 and provides you with a broad variety of new devices and functions which have been designed to give you more creative options than ever before. Max for Live has undergone many significant improvements including faster load times, less CPU usage and an updated user interface; this makes Max for Live even more reliable and intuitive. Many of Max for Live’s native devices have been significantly updated; drum synthesizers have been re-worked to offer an upgraded sound and a much more comprehensive sweet spot. Plus new LFO tools and modulation sources mean you can now modulate up to eight parameters from within a single device. Thanks to an enhanced MIDI-hardware integration, Max for Live can now send and receive SysEx signals, giving you a more in-depth combination with hardware synthesizers which includes preset backup dumps and parameter control. You can also create custom control surfaces for any custom hardware you may have, while new routing abilities makes mixing for performances and multi-channel speaker setups more accessible than ever thanks to the Surround Panner effect.

Alongside the plethora of exciting new workflow improvements, Live 10 also comes with three impressive new audio effects which let you get super-creative with sound editing and gives you the ability to create intricate new sounds.

Echo: This delay effects processor gives you the classic sounds of analogue and digital hardware delays. You can shape and drive your audio using the excellent analogue-modelled filters while noise and wobble controls allow you to make vintage sounding imperfections. This effect is perfect for sound design as well as diffuse soundscapes and so much more thanks to the brilliant control over modulation functions such as reverb amount and feedback.

Drum Buss: This effect is a one-stop shop made specifically for your drum group. The Drum Buss allows you to give your drums some subtle character or can be utilized to completely destroy your drum loops for exciting new sounds. There are controls for drive and crunch which let you give your drums some warmth and distortion while compression and transient shaping tools enable you to take full control over the dynamics. For even more punch and depth, the dedicated low-end control allows you to shape the bass decay just as you’d like.

Pedal: This guitar pedal effect comes with circuit-level models of distortion, overdrive, and fuzz giving you the traditional sound of analogue stompboxes to your sounds. The Pedal effect can give your sounds subtle character or ruthless grit and is brilliant for spicing up your vocals, pushing hard-hitting synthesizers to the limit or can utterly destroy your loops and of course, it pairs excellently with guitars.

As well as all these new effects and workflow improvements is a brand new, infinitely capable synthesizer created by the geniuses at Ableton called Wavetable. Wavetable allows you to stretch, morph and shape your sounds with various wavetables, all derived from analogue synths as well as a range of other instruments and sounds. An intuitive user interface means you can start creating complex sounds right away and you don’t need an in-depth knowledge of synthesis to get making unusual noises.

The Wavetable synth features two fully morphable oscillators alongside an extra sub-oscillator and has a truly vast amount of wavetables for you to play with. Alongside this are two Low-Frequency-Oscillators and three envelopes that can be used to modulate entirely any parameter you want thanks to the highly efficient modulation matrix.
